This package includes screenings for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and Trichomonas (Trich) from urine samples. These tests are looking for bacterial or parasitic infections in the genital area only. These three infections are sexually transmitted infections. These infections are often symptomless but some people are likely to experience genital itching or pain, burning sensation during urination, or abnormal discharge. Because they most times do not show symptoms, and the symptoms are alike to each other, these STDs can be difficult to diagnose without the appropriate testing.
STD testing is advised for sexually active persons, especially if they experience symptoms indicative of an infection.
Some people have low detection period after being exposed to these infections while in others, which makes the majority, the infection is detectable around 3 weeks after exposure to the infection.
The client should withhold urination for at least 1-2 hours before specimen collection. The customer should get the first catch of urine, about 20-30 ml, from the initial stream into the collection cup. Higher volumes than the 20-30 ml specified may dilute the specimen and reduce sensitivity.
Clients should not clean the genital area 1-2 hours before giving their urine specimen.
