The client should not urinate at least 1 hour before collection of the urine specimen. Clients should not clean the genital area 1-2 hours before giving their urine specimen. Please do provide first-catch urine (approximately 20-30 mL of the initial urine stream) into a urine collection cup free of any preservatives. Collection of larger volumes than the specified 20-30 mL of urine may result in specimen dilution and thereby lower the test sensitivity.
Chlamydia and Gonorrhea are urine tests.
Dietary supplements that contain biotin (also known as vitamin B7 or B8, vitamin H, or coenzyme R) may interfere and skew results to be either falsely high or low. For the persons taking the recommended daily doses of biotin, collect samples at least 8 hours after taking the last biotin supplement. For persons on mega-doses of biotin supplements, collect samples at least 72 hours after taking the biotin supplement.
