T3 Free is a blood test that measures the most reliable form of triiodothyronine, T3 Free, which is resistant to most protein levels and thereby stays more constant.
T3 Free takes evaluation of the thyroid gland's function and examine binding protein disorders.
Triiodothyronine (T3) is a thyroid hormone that is present in almost all physiological processes in the body. T3 is the active form of thyroxine (T4) and takes part in growth development, heart rate regulation, body metabolism and temperature.
When too much thyroid hormone is present in the blood, a condition called Thyrotoxicosis occur. Suspicious culprits for this condition is hyperthyroidism, Graves' disease, thyroid gland inflammation or benign tumor.
Too little presence of T3 can be caused by hyperthyroidism and gives symptoms like fatigue, intolerance to cold temperature, weight gain, low heart rate, decreased appetite, poor memory, depression, infertility, and sore muscles.
Turnaround for these tests is typically 3-5 business days.
Note: Result turn around times are an estimate and are not guaranteed. Our reference lab may need additional time due to weather, holidays, confirmation/repeat testing, or equipment maintenance.
