The coroner office or police department submit bone samples for DNA extraction and comparison to a family member to help ID burn victims, missing persons, etc. They would submit the bone sample, along with the lab submission form and affidavit of identity, and then we would legally collect a buccal swab sample from the parent or child of the potential unidentified family member.
