Titers – Basic

The Titer Test includes testing for immunity against Hepatitis A and B.  Hepatitis is a viral disease which affects the liver.  Vaccinations for Hep A and B can provide protective antibodies thereby immunizing a person from contacting the virus.

Titer testing screens for the antibodies that are indicative that a person has immunity against a particular virus or infection.

This package includes:

  • 508 Hepatitis A Total Antibody
  • 8475 Hepatitis B Surface Antibody Immunity
  • 498 Hepatitis B Surface Antigen
  • Hepatitis B Core Antibody
  • 4439 Varicella-Zozter Virus Antibody (lgG)
  • 5259 MMA (lgG) Panel (Measles, Mumps, Ruella)

The Hep B Surface Antibody test provides numerical results.  A positive Surface Antibody result means that a person has immunity against Hep B.  The Hep B Core Antibody is able to detect if a person has never contacted Hep B infection.  A positive Core Ab with a Positive Surface Ab may mean that a person is naturally immunized due to a previous infection and recovery.  The Hepatitis B Surface Antigen detects a person’s current Hep B infection status.

A positive Hep B Surface Antigen test should be followed up with a doctor.

Hep A Testing provides results that are qualitative positive or negative.  A Hep A Total Antibody test screens for both IgM and IgG antibodies but does not differentiate between IgM and IgG.

IgM antibodies show a recent or current infection.  IgG Antibodies develop after one is infected or vaccinated and provide the needed immunity.  A positive Total Ab test with a negative IgM test is usually indicative of immunity while a positive Total Ab test with a Positive IgM test likely show a recent infection.

The Hepatitis Titer Test is to be carried out when a person is uncertain of his immunity status against Hep A and B.

Results are typically returned within 1-3 business days. We take every precaution to ensure you receive your results on time.

Requirements:

It may take 6-8 weeks after being vaccinated for titer tests to be accurate.

Dietary supplements that contain biotin (also known as vitamin B7 or B8, vitamin H, or coenzyme R) may interfere and skew results to be either falsely high or low. For the persons taking the recommended daily doses of biotin, collect samples at least 8 hours after taking the last biotin supplement. For persons on mega-doses of biotin supplements, collect samples at least 72 hours after taking the biotin supplement.
